Mike Wadley
Varsity Head Coach/Program Director

Head coach Mike Wadley enters his twenty-ninth year at Lakewood High School and nineteenth overall as its head coach. Over the last eighteen years he has had 27 All-CIF, 11 All-Americans and 5 Fab-Fifty players suite up in a Lancer uniform. There have been 50 student/athletes signing to 4-year universities during this time and some have signed at: UCLA, Long Beach State (8), University of Arizona, UCI, ASU, Oregon State, UCSB, San Diego State, University of Nevada, Cal State Fullerton (4), Hampton (2), U of Texas-Kingsville, Pepperdine, UNLV, University of Miami, University of Illinois, University of Great Falls, Wyoming, Utah, Missouri State, Coppin State (2), NYACK, University of Redlands (2) and CSUDH (3) respectively. Last season saw Fatimah Hall (San Diego State), Samarah DaCoud (University of Nevada), Cortni Youngblood (UCSB) and Andrea Briseno (Cypress College) all move on to new schools where they will compete as collegiate athletes.
Fifteen out of eighteen teams, during Coach Wadley’s tenure, have advanced to the CIF SS Quarterfinals with five of those teams advancing to the Semi-Finals. Those teams have an overall record of 490-133. The 2007 team finished with a ranking of #21 out of roughly 5,000 from Prep Volleyball and a #9 National Ranking from Max Preps and the Division I California State Championship. The 2008 team started off the year being ranked as the #1 team in the nation by ESPN Rise magazine. Each of the last ten of fourteen years Coach Wadley’s Lancers has ranked in the top 100 in the country. The 2022 team was ranked #4 in CIF Division 1 and #8 overall in the state of California.
Coach Wadley has been married for 28 years to his lovely wife Jessica and has two sons Adam and Jared. In his spare time he enjoys golf, cooking and hanging out with his wife. Adam is a Dominguez Hills Kinesiology Graduate and the current JV Girls coach along with serving as the boys varsity volleyball head coach. Jared is a sophomore at Long Beach City College where he is studying Culinary Arts. Coach Wadley is a Long Beach native attending Wilson High School graduating in 1989 where he ran Track, Cross Country and played Volleyball. Coach Wadley has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from National University and has a Master’s of Arts in Coaching and Athletics Administration from Concordia University and a credential in Health and Medical Technology from University of San Diego. Coach Wadley teaches freshman at Lakewood and is in the HOSM pathway with his Health and Career Exploration class. Coach Wadley is the Co-Athletic Director at Lakewood and assists in overseeing all 28 sports on campus. Coach Wadley is also in charge of the Division 1/2 Indoor Advisory Committee, Girls Beach Volleyball Advisory Committee and the Moore League Coordinator.
